Marge Hogarty Bio

Since 2022, I have been a member of the WRS Board, and I edit Notes, the WRS newsletter. I have been a member of the Washington Recorder Society on and off since the 1970s. More recently, I came back to recorder playing in 2010 when I joined the OLLI Consort at the Osher Lifetime Learning Institute at George Mason University. I play twice a week with musicians I met through that group, and I enjoy playing at workshops to improve my skills.

I was born in Chicago shortly after my parents met in the church choir and married. I was introduced to piano at an early age and still have the family piano in my home. I began recorder in the late 70s, when my son brought home a soprano from elementary school and failed to play it. And so it began for me.

I love languages. I studied at Middlebury College in Vermont and Paris for my MA in French. This led to my teaching and tutoring French at various times over the years. After my children grew up, I worked as a travel agent and then, for many years, as a real estate agent in Reston, Virginia. As an active retiree, I enjoy making music, gardening, traveling, reading, keeping up with my grandchildren, and learning new things.
